The Turbulent 2020s: A Midterm Report

Summer Retreat with Bishop Anna - Sunday, July 27, 2025

Bishop Anna Greenwood-Lee and Christine Conkin, incumbent at St. George's, Cadboro Bay, will be hosting a week of intentional reflection at the Sorrento Centre this summer (July 27 - August 2). The week will explore and incarnate life-giving theology and practice in this turbulent decade.

The 2020s... we know how they started. How are they going? Climate crisis. Racial reckonings. Institutional church decline. Trump is back. The future is uncertain.

How does our theology help or hinder us as we navigate the turbulence of our times? How do we hold fast in these chaotic and changing times? Together you'll look at some of the theological voices of our time and explore their insights to dig into some of the issues of our day.

Compassion: Mutual Care for Troubled Times

May 27-28, 2025

On May 27–28, 2025 VST will host Compassion: Mutual Care for Troubled Times. This conference is all about engaging with what the spirituality and practice of compassion should look like in our time. There will be presentations from scholars and activists, time for conversations with like-hearted individuals, and an abundance of inter-religious community.

Dr. Terri Elizabeth Givens, Professor of Political Science at the University of British Columbia and the author of Radical Empathy: Finding a Path to Bridging Racial Divides, will give the keynote lecture on May 27 at 7pm.

All the presentations will be available both in-person and online! You can find the full details here: https://vst.edu/inter-religious-studies-program/conference/

Registration for the conference is $190—but there is a student discount of $100. There is also some funding available if cost is a barrier. Rabbi Laura Duhan-Kaplan (the conference administrator) can be contacted for more information on financial aid (LDKaplan@vst.edu).
