The Safe Church program provides training to help ensure our churches are places of safety from the harm of misconduct that can occur in situations when there is an imbalance of power. It involves both clergy and lay volunteers (wardens, treasurers, youth workers, musicians and teachers).
Criminal record checks are a requirement in the Diocese of British Columbia for clergy and lay volunteers. We accept certified copies of the CRC's from other organizations.
Safe Church training is designed to ensure our parish is a place of safety and·wholeness for those who come to us seeking the love of Christ and to ensure all of our volunteers and employees are aware of their own personal safety and are equipped to manage their own personal risk. Topic specific training is also available, including, but not limited to child sex abuse, elder abuse, risk management and self care. Training is provided and required for parish council members and wardens, paid and volunteer staff (including clergy, treasurer, administration, organist, choir director, envelope secretary, children and youth workers, pastoral care visitors, honourary assistants, refugee coordinators, janitorial and groundskeepers)
