I am the good shepherd, says the Lord: I know my own and my own know me. ~John 10:14

Processional Hymn: #378  Crown Him With Many Crowns

Crown him with many crowns,
the Lamb upon his throne.
Hark! how the heavenly anthem drowns
all music but its own.
Awake, my soul, and sing
of him who died for thee,
and hail him as thy matchless king
through all eternity.

Crown him the Lord of life,
who triumphed o'er the grave,
and rose victorious in the strife
for those he came to save;
his glories now we sing
who died and rose on high,
who died eternal life to bring,
and lives that death may die.

Crown him the Lord of peace,
whose power a sceptre sways,
from pole to pole, that wars may cease,
absorbed in prayer and praise.
His reign shall know no end;
and round his pierced feet
flair flowers of paradise extend
their fragrance ever sweet.

Crown him the Lord of love;
behold his hands and side,
rich wounds, yet visible above,
in beauty glorified;
All hail, Redeemer, hail!
for thou hast died for me;
thy praise shall never, never fail
throughout eternity.

Call to Worship
In this time and place, we gather on the ancestral territories of Kwakwaka'wakw, Nuu-chah-nulth and Coast Salish peoples.
From many places and peoples we come to this house in prayer.
In this time and place we gather in the name of the living God.
We meet in the presence of Jesus Christ, risen and alive.
In this time and place we gather with the community of faith around the globe and across the ages  In this time and place heaven and earth are one.
In this time and place we are not alone, but one in Christ.
Knit together in the unity of the Spirit.
In this time and place hallowed, expectant, one people in God.
In the name of the Holy and Blessed One, Creator, Redeemer and Holy Spirit. Amen

Glory to God p. 186

Kyrie Eleison p. 186

Collect: O God of peace, who brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus Christ, that great shepherd of the sheep, by the blood of the eternal covenant, make us perfect in every good work to do your will, and work in us that which is well-pleasing in your sight; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen

The Proclamation of the Word   (Led by Doug Shantz)
First Reading:    ACTS 2:42-47

PSALM 23      R: The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not be in want.

The Epistle:        1 PETER 2:19-25

Gospel Hymn: #520 The King of Love My Shepherd Is

The King of love my Shepherd is,
Whose goodness faileth never;
I nothing lack if I am his
And he is mine for ever.

Where streams of living water flow
My ransomed soul he leadeth,
And where the verdant pastures grow
With food celestial feedeth.

Perverse and foolish oft I strayed,
But yet in love he sought me,
And on his shoulder gently laid,
And home, rejoicing, brought me.

In death's dark vale I fear no ill
With thee, dear Lord, beside me;
Thy rod and staff my comfort still,
Thy cross before to guide me.

Thou spread'st a table in my sight;
Thy unction, grace bestoweth:
And O what transport of delight
From thy pure chalice floweth!

And so through all the length of days
Thy goodness faileth never;
Good Shepherd, may I sing thy praise
Within thy house for ever.

The Gospel:        JOHN 10:1-10

Homily:

Affirmation of Faith:
Let us confess the faith of our baptism as we say:
We believe in God, who has created all life and continues to create new life within and without us.  We believe in Jesus, son of God, son of man, the Saviour of the world.
By his life, his death and his resurrection from the grave, we can know the true depth of human possibility and experience the true joy of abundant life. We believe the Holy Spirit is present now and always calling us to faith, giving us gifts, and empowering us for service.
We believe the church is the community of faith called to experience the fullness of life through God’s Word made flesh in Jesus Christ.  Amen

Prayers of the People (Led by Tim Ray)

Prayer for Renewal
Gracious God, as people called to be your presence in the world, we search our hearts, and ask your forgiveness:
(silence follows)
For opportunities not taken, for care not given,
forgive us we pray
For sorrow not shared, for joy not celebrated,
forgive us we pray
For love not offered, forgiveness not extended,
forgive us we pray
For those failings we cannot speak aloud,
forgive us we pray
Gracious God we seek your healing grace, and ask forgiveness in the name of Jesus.    Amen

Words of Assurance
No matter where we are, God is there.
No matter what we have done, God forgives.
No matter our reluctance to accept God, God has accepted us.
With that assurance, receive forgiveness, and live in fullness and in hope.
Amen

The Peace
The God who holds heaven and earth as one sent to us the Prince of Peace:
peace in the Church,
peace among nations,
peace in our homes and
peace in our hearts.
The peace of Christ be always with you.
And also with you

(the congregation greets one another offering a sign of peace)

Hymn:  #364 Splendour and Honour

Splendor and honor, majesty and power,
       are yours, O Lord God, fount of every blessing,
for by your bidding was the whole creation
       called into being.

Praised be the true Lamb, slain for our redemption,
       by whose self-offering we are made God's people:
a priestly kingdom, from all tongues and nations,
       called to God's service.

To the Almighty, throned in heavenly splendor,
       and to the Savior, Christ our Lamb and Shepherd,
be adoration, praise, and glory given,
       now and for ever.

Prayer over the Gifts God of loving care, you spread before us the table of life, and give us the cup of salvation to drink. Keep us always in the fold of your Son Jesus Christ, our Saviour and our shepherd. Amen

THE SACRED MEAL IS SHARED
The Lord is here
God’s Spirit is with us.
Lift up your hearts
We lift them up to God
Let us give thanks to the God of all of Creation
It is right to give our thanks and praise
It is indeed right that we should praise you, God of love, our source and our fulfillment, for you create all things and in you we live and move and have our being. Your wonder is manifest in land and sea and sky.
You made us in your image. And even though we turn from you, again and again you call us to yourself, and in every age, promise liberation. As a mother gathers her children, you embraced a people as your own to nurture them in the way of compassionate love. You sent Jesus among us, incarnate of the Holy Spirit and born of Mary. Jesus revealed your love for all Creation, and showed us the way of reconciliation. Having lived among us - Jesus suffered the cross, died,
And in rising again became the firstborn of the renewed family.
Your Holy Spirit descended and gave life to your church.
And so we gather around your table, with all the saints and with all Creation, we sing the hymn of your unending love:

Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power and might, heaven and earth are full of your glory, Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is the One who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest.

To you be glory, almighty God, because on the night before he died, Jesus took bread, when he had given thanks, he broke it, gave it to his disciples, and said: Take, eat, this is my body which is given for you: do this to remember me.

After supper he took the cup; when he had given thanks, he gave it to them and said: Drink this all of you. This is my blood of the new covenant, poured out for you for the forgiveness of sins; do this to remember me.

Great is the mystery of faith.

Christ has died, Christ is risen, Christ will come again.

Recalling Christ’s death and resurrection, we ask you to accept this, our sacrifice of praise. Pour out your Holy Spirit on us gathered here, and on these gifts that we may be fed with the body and blood of your Son.
Unite us in Christ and give us your peace that we might be strengthened to do your work as your body in the world. Through Christ our Redeemer, in the power of the Spirit, all praise and glory be yours, Creator God, now and for ever. Amen.

The Lord's Prayer (sung)
We break this bread to share in the body of Christ,
We, being many, are one body, for we all share in the one bread.
The gifts of God for the people of God
Thanks be to God

The Communion (all are welcome to receive communion, or to come up to the altar for a blessing)

Communion Hymn: #85 Shepherds of Souls, Refresh and Bless

Shepherd of souls, refresh and bless
Thy chosen pilgrim flock
With manna in the wilderness,
With water from the rock.

We would not live by bread alone,
But by thy word of grace,
In strength of which we travel on
To our abiding place.

Be known to us in breaking bread,
But do not then depart;
Saviour, abide with us, and spread
Thy table in our heart.

Lord, sup with us in love divine;
Thy body and thy blood,
That living bread, that heavenly wine,
Be our immortal food.

Prayer after Communion: God of steadfast love, watch over the Church redeemed by the blood of your Son. May we who share in these holy mysteries come safely to your eternal kingdom, where there is one flock and one shepherd. We ask this in the name of Jesus Christ the risen Lord. Amen

The Doxology (Old 100th): Praise God from whom all blessings flow! Praise him all creatures here below! Praise him above ye heavenly hosts! Praise Father, Son and Holy Ghost! Amen

The Blessing

Closing Hymn: #460 Lord, the Light of your Love is Shining

Lord, the light of your love is shining
In the midst of the darkness, shining
Jesus, Light of the world, shine upon us
Set us free by the truth you now bring us
Shine on me, shine on me

Refrain
Shine, Jesus, shine
Fill this land with the Father's glory
Blaze, Spirit, blaze
Set our hearts on fire
Flow, river, flow
Flood the nations with grace and mercy
Send forth your word, Lord,
and let there be light

Lord, I come to your awesome presence
From the shadows into your radiance
By the blood I may enter your brightness
Search me, try me, consume all my darkness
Shine on me, shine on me
Refrain

As we gaze on your kingly brightness
So our faces display your likeness
Ever changing from glory to glory
Mirrored here may our lives tell your story
Shine on me, shine on me.
Refrain
