A great prophet has arisen among us! God has visited his people!
 ~Luke 7.16

Processional Hymn: #9 Today I Awake

Today I awake
and God is before me.
At night, as I dreamt,
he summoned the day;
   for God never sleeps
   but patterns the morning
   with slithers of gold
   or glory in grey.

Today I arise
and Christ is beside me.
He walked through the dark
to scatter new light,
   Yes, Christ is alive,
   and beckons his people
   to hope and to heal,
   resist and invite.

Today I affirm
the Spirit within me
at worship and work,
in struggle and rest.
   The Spirit inspires
   all life which is changing
   from fearing to faith,
   from broken to blest.

Today I enjoy
 the Trinity round me,
above and beneath,
before and behind;
   The Maker, the Son,
   the Spirit together
   they called me to life
   and call me their friend.

Welcome & Acknowledgment of Land

Call to Worship
Creator, we give you thanks for all you are and all you bring to us for our visit within your creation. In Jesus, you place the Gospel in the center of this Sacred Circle through which all of creation is related. You show us the way to live a generous and compassionate life. Give us your strength to live together with respect and commitment as we grow in your Spirit, for you are God, now and forever. Amen

Collect for Father’s Day
God of our Fathers, we give you thanks for the good and noble witness so many of us have learned from our own fathers. Remind us, on this special day, to mark and celebrate the good that we have learned from them, the loyal guidance that they provide throughout our lives, the gentle summons to see things in a new way. And, remind those of us who are fathers ourselves, that we are called to this same responsibility of defending, protecting, guiding, and teaching, and celebrating the joys of the children who follow us. Give us wisdom to work with others for the benefit of all those in our care. We pray this in the name of one who called you Father, Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen

Gospel Hymn: #585 Lord, Whose Love in Humble Service

Lord, whose love in humble service
   bore the weight of human need,
who upon the cross, forsaken,
   worked your mercy’s perfect deed:
we, your servants, bring the worship
   not of voice alone, but heart;
consecrating to your purpose
   ev’ry gift which you impart.

Still your children wander homeless;
   still the hungry cry for bread;
still the captives long for freedom;
   still in grief we mourn our dead.
As you, Lord, in deep compassion
   healed the sick and freed the soul,
by your Spirit send your power
   to our world to make it whole.

As we worship, grant us vision,
   till your love’s revealing light
in its height and depth and greatness
   dawns upon our quickened sight,
making known the needs and burdens
   your compassion bids us bear,
stirring us to ardent service,
   your abundant life to share.

Offertory Hymn: #455 Dear God Compassionate and Kind

Dear God, compassionate and kind,
forgive our foolish ways.
Reclothe us in our rightful mind,
in purer lives thy service find,
in deeper reverence, praise.

In simple trust like theirs who heard,
beside the Syrian sea,
the gracious calling of the Lord,
let us, like them, without a word,
rise up and follow thee!

O Sabbath rest by Galilee!
O calm of hills above,
where Jesus knelt to share with thee
the silence of eternity
interpreted by love!

Drop thy still dews of quietness,
till all our strivings cease;
take from our souls the strain and stress,
and let our ordered lives confess
the beauty of thy peace.

Breathe through the heats of our desire
thy coolness and thy balm;
let sense be dumb, let flesh retire;
speak through the earthquake, wind, and fire,
O still, small voice of calm.

Prayer over the Gifts  Creator, you bless us with many good gifts returned to you from your creation. Feed us with the Bread of Life, your Son Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen

Communion Hymn:  #59 Jesus Calls Us Here to Meet Him

Jesus calls us here to meet him
as, through word and song and prayer,
we affirm God’s promised presence
where his people live and care.
Praise the God who keeps his promise;
praise the Son who calls us friends;
praise the Spirit who, among us,
to our hopes and fears attends.

Jesus calls us to confess him
Word of life and Lord of all,
sharer of our flesh and frailness,
saving all who fail or fall.
Tell his holy human story;
tell his tales that all may hear;
tell the world that Christ in glory
came to earth to meet us here.

Jesus calls us to each other,
found in him are no divides.
Race and class, and sex and language --
such are barriers he derides.
Join the hand of friend and stranger;
join the hand of age and youth;
join the faithful and the doubter
in their common search for truth.

Jesus calls us to his table
rooted firm in time and space,
where the church in earth and heaven
finds a common meeting place.
Share the bread and wine, his body;
share the love of which we sing;
share the feast for saints and sinners
hosted by our Lord and King.

Prayer after Communion   Jesus Christ, our leader, you are the Son of the Creator. Today we became your children today we became your grandchildren. We will live as you have taught us. We will follow your commandments. Watch over us. Speak to us from the trees, from the grass and herbs, from the breeze, from the passing rain, from the passing thunder and the deep waters. Before us there is beauty, behind us there is beauty. Allow us to walk a long life in happiness completed in beauty.  Amen
(From the Liturgy of St. John’s, Red Lake, MN)

Doxology (Old 100th): Praise God from whom all blessings flow!
Praise him all creatures here below! Praise him above ye heavenly
hosts! Praise Father, Son and Holy Ghost! Amen

The Blessing

Closing Hymn:  #484 In Christ there is No East or West

In Christ there is no east or west,
in Christ no south or north,
but one great fellowship of love
throughout the whole wide earth.

In Christ shall true hearts ev’rywhere
their high communion find.
whose service is the golden cord
close-binding humankind.

Join hands, disciples of the faith,
whate’er your race may be;
who serves my god in truth and love
is surely kin to me.

In Christ now meet both east and west,
in Christ meet south and north.
All faithful souls are joined as one
throughout the whole wide earth.
